A commercial fisherman who turned to art in later life, Doug Kinney’s views on Port Orford, Oregon, has changed since moving here 17 years ago.

“It rains here, but we get a lot of the rain at night, and there’s wind, but you do things in the morning before it comes up,” Says he, “I can’t imagine living someplace else.”

Kinney’s artist wife Joyce Spicer-Kinney also owns Port Orford’s Tri Angle Square Gallery while Kinney himself manages it. His studio is said to be somewhere in the rear of this building.

His fine pen work and beautiful watercolor washes come together to form stunning maritime scenes. Kinney’s works show well-observed wave action and fishing boats lovingly detailed. The technique is masterful, probably even more so when seen in person!

To see his work, the main art venue is Tri Angle Square Gallery, 343 W 6th Street, Port Orford, OR. In 2009 his paintings were also part of a Port Orford group show at the Jacobs Gallery in Eugene, OR.
