The long and successful art career of Roger Bansemer is amazing! He has worked in a number of styles but lately focuses on representational paintings of landscapes, shorebirds, wildlife, beachscapes, and nautical themes. In particular he has become known as America’s premier painter of lighthouses.

His book, Southern Shores, evoked this quote from the late Walter Cronkite: “. . .his brush and his pen capture not only its beauty, but its fragility in the hands of man.” Novelist James A. Michener used the book as a reference for his own novel Recessional; and as a result, a close friendship developed between the two.

Michener then wrote the foreword for Bansemer’s book, Mountains in the Mist, saying, “Under his tutelage I saw things that I had not noticed closely because I realized that with his artist’s eye he could see things I didn’t.”

His experience has resulted in a another book filled with artwork and narrative titled Journey to Titanic with a foreword by filmmaker James Cameron.
